Holiday Celebration!

Newsletter #21

Important Dates:

January 14 - Library/ Remember Your Books!

January 18 - Reports Cards Distributed

January 21 - No School/ Martin Luther King Day

January 31 - Field Trip/ Saint Mary's College

This week we are back to our normal library schedule.  Library will be this Monday at 1:00.  Please be sure your child returns their library books to be able to check out new books for the week.  We have a few students who have not been able to check out books in a while.  Thanks for your help with this.

Please look for your child's report card to come home on Friday in their Wednesday folder.  Be sure to keep the report card and return the signed, empty envelope back to school on Tuesday (remember, Monday is a holiday).  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In math, we are moving into our geometry unit.  Please start saving all kinds of boxes.  We will need all shapes and sizes (no bigger than a cereal box).  Each student will need at least 5 boxes so you can start sending them in tomorrow.  We will be creating Shape Town in our classroom out of three dimensional boxes.  As soon as we have enough, we will begin construction.  We continue to work on place value and addition and subtraction facts.

In writing, we will begin our publishing unit for writer's workshop.  This is quite a process to publish a story.  Last week, we reviewed writing types (opinion, narrative, story, and information).  This week, we will work on editing in writing.  We will try to identify misspelled words, correct punctuation, and add details.  This will be something we will be working on for the next few weeks.  You can help by encouraging your child to reread their library notebooks and correct errors at home.  This will steadily improve!!

If you have not turned in your child's permission slip for this month's field trip, please do so by Wednesday.  I need to verify drivers and chaperones.  Thanks!

Our top Raz Reader and Dreambox student was Molly this week.  Way to go Molly!!  I understand a few students had trouble logging into Dreambox.  I will have Mrs. Barry re-print QR Codes to send home hopefully, on Monday.  My apologies for not having it done last week.  I was out sick Friday and Mrs. Barry was out on Wednesday and Thursday.  Our goal is to get everyone back up and running this week!

Have a great week!
