Welcome to the 2018 school year! My name is Susan Peterson and I am the full-time science specialist here at Montair. I am looking forward to making lots of exciting scientific discoveries with my students this year!  I will see every class in grades 1-3 in the lab once a week and grades 4 & 5 will be in the lab twice a week.

New this year, the district has adopted the use of science notebooks as a learning tool for all students and has provided EVERY student with their own notebook to use both in the lab and in the classroom. We are looking forward to using these notebooks to enhance student learning of the Next Generation Science Standards.

Thanks to the generosity of both the Montair Foundation, I will be piloting several new Engineering is Elementary units at various grade levels this year.  These kits will teach students how to use the scientific process to solve real-world problems using collaboration and creative thinking. I will also be using Picture Perfect STEM books and lessons, funded by the Montair PTA,  to introduce students to important scientific concepts. It's going to be a fun year in the lab!
