Diversity and Inclusion

Inclusion and Diversity at Montair

Diversity means valuing the unique offerings that each of us brings to the Montair community. There are many ways that we as individuals define ourselvesgender, ethnicity, religion, culture, socioeconomic status, ability, age, parental status, and a host of other factors that comprise our identities. Emphasizing diversity can teach our children to appreciate differences among people as much as similarities. And inclusion encourages us to reach out and engage every member of our school community so that everyone feels welcome and valued.

Montair’s Inclusion and Diversity Committee (IDC) puts on the annual Festival Around the World, celebrating our school’s diverse cultures with food, music, dance, and art.  Additionally, IDC assists with Words Matter Week in February, a district-wide recognition of the importance of kindness and word choice. We also host a monthly after school Inclusion Club meeting to address district resolutions, i.e., Bullying Prevention Month and Asian Pacific Heritage Month, during which students learn about the topic by hearing a speaker or reading a book and then participate in a relevant activity.

Please join us on this journey. When we teach our children to hear and include more voices, we truly enrich them and their world.
